Two Weeks in America

Well, we've been home for just over two weeks now. I'm still struggling to keep up the blog with all of the changes going on, and now our laptop is in the shop for repairs for a week so it's even harder for me to get on and write.

We're doing better than I expected with the culture shock. I think that getting accustomed to the craziness of the market in Moldova has actually helped me manage in Wal-Mart (and similar stores) better than I did before we left! How funny is that? I was in no way overwhelmed in Wal-Mart like almost every other returning missionary has told me would be the case. Actually, I was kind of underwhelmed. It's so clean and spacious and things are clearly labeled in a language I understand. There aren't wall-to-wall people to push my way through or ten people selling the same thing to have to choose between. If I needed something, I could ask people questions and clearly understand their answers. What's there to be overwhelmed with?

We have struggled a bit with the quality (or lack thereof) of food here. I don't think Josh would mind me telling you that he did tear up one day in the bread section of our tiny neighborhood grocery story because Moldovan bread is just so, so very good and cheap. I've struggled in the fruits and vegetables section because it's all so terribly expensive, especially the organic stuff, which is what I prefer to get. And it seems like outside of the produce section, everything has high fructose corn syrup in it... EVERYTHING! Good grief!

I miss Moldova terribly. The people. The culture. The market. The language. But, like I've said before, we really are having a great time getting to see and catch up with our friends and families. I had my dad help me hang a big clothes line behind their house yesterday, because I really miss hanging our clothes outside.

I've kind of struggled with what to write about now, and feeling like my life is suddenly not nearly as interesting as it was before. I've started writing a series or two about mothering and family life, but I just haven't had the time to finish them out. Hopefully I'll get around to that soon.

Last but not least, get excited because I'm going to have a really fun feature tomorrow and a great giveaway to go with it! You won't want to miss it!
