How to Wear a Scarf?

Okay, so I'm going to let you in on a pretty well-known secret among those who know me personally... I'm not very stylish. I mean, I like style, but when I put something stylish on myself, I just don't feel like it looks right on me. 

Here's another less well-known secret... I'm a sucker for vintage scarves. I have several that I've bought at various junk stores over the years, but I never wear them because I don't know how. Isn't that pathetic? But I plan to change all of that with your help!

We have a team of Americans here right now, and one of the ladies went with me to the market on Thursday. I was showing her around the clothing part of the market and she wanted to look for some kind of shawl or large scarf. We didn't find exactly what she was looking for, but we did stumble upon something I'd never noticed before... a whole bunch of vintage scarves! They were only 10 lei (about 85 cents) each, so we both got one. I got a fun red and teal one because I really love those colors together.

But I need you to help me figure out what to do with it! I'm really putting myself out there by posting all of these make-up-less, dorky pictures of myself, but I thought a visual would help. So first, here's me with it tied behind my neck:

And tied in the front: (I'm not super crazy about this one because I feel like it adds a lot of volume to my front side... and to be honest my front side doesn't need any more volume!)

I really like the way it looks tied around my head, but it is constantly slipping off! I think part of it is because I have such a high forehead. I figured out that if I pull it down past my hairline a bit, it stays on a little better, but I feel like it looks a little weird because it smashes my bangs against my forehead. I wore it like this for much of the day Thursday, but by the end of the day I was pulling it down a lot farther on my forehead. You could still see my bangs, but barely.

And, at the risk of exposing myself as a total dork, this is really my favorite way to wear it. It's fun and out of my way and stays put. When I asked Josh what he thought about it, his exact words were, "It's a little weird. You look like a flag girl." Thank you, sweet husband. At least he's honest, right? So I want you to be honest, too. Is it weird? Would you wear it like this? 

How would you wear a scarf like this? Do you wear scarves? Do you think I'm just a total dork for wanting to wear it at all? Please help.

New Kids on the Block are Back!

I was QUITE the New Kids on the Block fan in my younger years. I know I'll date myself as seeming really young to some and really old to others by showing you guys this:

That's my first grade class picture, taken in the fall of 1990. It was about 95 degrees that day, but Mom had just bought me this awesome new NKOTB sweater and I just HAD to wear it in my class picture... with the side pony tail, of course. I had NKOTB shirts, buttons, trading cards, and a special affection for Jordan, whom I named one of my baby dolls after (even at the tender age of 7, I was CONVINCED that we were going to meet and fall in love).

They were on the Today Show this morning (which you can see more of here), and they are going on a reunion tour with Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers this summer. The closest they will be to here is Chicago, so we will probably not be making it to a concert, but wouldn't that be fun?? A stadium full of twenty and thirty something women reliving their childhood right along side pretween girls living their childhood for the first time. It could be a fun mother-daughter or sister-sister or aunt-niece bonding experience!

Church Gives Pastor New Truck

Bro. Ricky Cunningham has faithfully served the congregation at my husband's home church- Hardin Baptist Church in Hardin, Kentucky- for 25 years. Over the last 25 years the congregation has grown from 60 to more than 1,500 (in a town with a population of only 500!  And he's no easy-believism preacher, either :) ). To show their appreciation, the church members took up several offerings and surprised their pastor with a brand new truck!


What an incredible testimony of faithful Gospel preaching!

Before He Speaks- Hilarious Music Video by Pastors' Wives

I don't even remember where I found this (I mean... youtube obviously, but I saw it on someone else's blog), but it is so hilarious... and so true! Nobody makes better fodder for sermon illustrations than us poor pastors' wives. :)

In my husband's defense, he usually runs it by me before he tells a story on me, but for the sake of being a good sport, I have approved some pretty embarassing stories!

I think my favorite part is "Right now, he's probably movin' onto my drivin' for a juicy little sermon illustration. Right now, he's probably tellin' them how I pulled into traffic without any indication." :D

No, Really. The Winkee.

What in the world?? Is that a thong on a bra? No, my friend. It's a Winkee!

I found this hilarious website today skimming the interwebs. Really, once you get past giggling over the way it looks, it's a pretty good concept (although Erin at A Dress A Day thinks it should have a hidden pocket... and I can't say I diasgree). Basically, it clips to any bra as an alternative to wearing a camisole under low-cut shirts.

I love that on the How It Works page, it says that, among other things, the Winkee makes men more productive. They also remind you that the Winkee does not cure the common cold. These ladies obviously have a sense of humor!

What do you think? Wardrobe-saving solution or funny-looking flop? I think I'm tempted to get (or sew) one for myself!
