Our Trip to Iași

We just got back to Moldova from a great 3-day trip to Iași, Romania (pronounced yash, rhymes with wash). Our living permits expired on Monday, so we left Sunday and came back Tuesday in order to get a new stamp on our passports that would allow us to stay here for the last 7 weeks of the semester.

We stayed at Little Texas, a Hotel and Restaurant owned by Texans who have decorated the place up just like an American steakhouse. There was country music playing in the restaurant and outside, and all of the staff spoke English... it was very nice! At our first meal, I forgot that they all knew English and ordered in Romanian. Then Josh ordered in English and said, "I'm in Texas; I refuse to speak Romanian in Texas!"

The hotel also had a huge, lush green lawn (which is really unusual around here), so we had a good time playing out there (and taking lots of pictures, of course).

The weather was perfect and on Monday afternoon we took Jude to a nearby park to play. At first he only wanted to play with the rocks, but he eventually figured out how much fun the slides were and had a blast!

Here's a video of him on the big tube slide at the park. He was so funny, he would say, "Woah, woah, woah" the whole way down, and it was amplified at the bottom of the slide, so it was really loud.

It was a great little getaway, but we are glad to be back at camp for 7 more weeks. Every day that passes is getting more and more bittersweet. Sweet because we are getting so excited about seeing everyone back home, but bitter because we are going to miss this place and these people so much. I'm just trying to enjoy every day as much as possible, which is going to be easy this week, because the weather is supposed to be beautiful.

  1. Sounds like a wonderful family getaway. How interesting that there is a little Texas oasis in the midst of Romania. Looks like a lot of fun for you all.

Great picture of the static in Jude's hair on the slide. Always love that when kids go down the slide :)

Wow! Only seven more weeks . . .

  2. Did you enjoy some good BBQ while in "Texas?" :)

Love Jude's hair while he's on the tube slide. And the background in the picture of your guys on the lawn is breathtaking.
