Craft-spiration! Super Easy Baby Blanket

So... if anybody has noticed, I haven't been doing that much crafting lately.  Right before I found out I was pregnant, I bought a cute dress pattern and intended to sew myself a dress to wear to a wedding during the summer.  Well... the first trimester knocked me on my butt, and on top of that it was my first ever pattern and it was REALLY HARD to understand and follow!

So now that I've had some more energy, I've felt like I needed to finish that dress, but am so frustrated with it (and I figure, my luck it probably won't even fit when I'm finished), that I've been dragging my feet.

I really want to sew a few baby wraps for myself and some friends, but have been totally uninspired by the lack of cute fabrics at Hancock's (the only sewing store in this whole stinkin' city... but they are building a JoAnn's as we speak!  Hooray!).  So I was browsing some of my favorite craft websites looking for new inspiration and stumbled upon a REALLY cute and REALLY easy baby blanket on The Purl Bee.

Her pattern (go here to see it) makes a 26 x 28 inch blanket, but I'm thinking that I could probably make it bigger than that by just adding some extra stitches to the width (depending on how many stitches my circular needles will hold) and then making it longer to keep it square-ish.  Or maybe I'll figure out how to sew knitted stuff together (I'm a pretty novice knitter, I've only done scarves before) and make a really big one.

I'm excited to be knitting again and I'm hoping that this will be just the thing to get me back into the crafting groove.  And I like knitting because it doesn't require much physical effort (sewing kills my back).  Why didn't I think of this in the first trimester??
