Sew a Pouch Sling or Wrap

(picture from the Hotsling website)

With baby on the way, I have already invested in 2 pouch slings and want about a million more.  I'd also really like to try a wrap, because there are so many neat ways to wear them and they look more comfy than a more structured carrier like an Ergo.

I found these directions online for how to sew your own pouch sling... it doesn't sound too hard!

And then a super SUPER easy way to make 3 wraps at once at wearyourbaby.com!  It doesn't get any easier than that!  You can give two away or just have two backups incase you get spitup/cat hair/breastmilk/you name it all over the other ones. :)

A neat modification would be to sew a cute fabric onto the center of the wrap so it shows when you're wearing it, like this cute wrap on etsy.

Those will definitely be a lot cheaper than the $40-$100 big name slings and wraps!  If you're not up for making one yourself, you can get some really cute handmade baby carriers of all styles on etsy.com, or check out the Frogmama Baby Carriers blinkie I have on the right side of my blog!

  1. great idea! thanks for the link. I dont have any kids (yet), however i work at a daycare as the infant care provider and the cook. With 2 fussy babies under 3 months and 2 more new ones coming in the next few months, this could come in handy!

  2. I wish all these directions had been around when my kids were little! I had one sling that I had bought (for ALOT of money) and it barely survived all three kids. There are so many more choices and people sharing their ideas and patterns.
A sling or wrap makes your life so much easier and the benefits for the baby are wonderful.
    Happy Babywearing!

  3. I LOVE baby slings. The only type I have made or used is the pouch type but I really love them. Came in really handy with my little girl for breastfeeding and just getting stuff done around the house. I have baby #2 on the way so I'm going to be making some more slings. Thanks for the info!
