I'm SEW excited!!

I know, I know... cheesy play on words, but it's true! I'm sewing and I love it!

I knew I would love it if I ever got the chance to learn, and I finally have the opportunity to attend the free sewing class offered at the seminary, accompanied by my Brother sewing machine that I got at a yard sale last summer for $20:

My first project in the sewing class is a purse. It's pretty much what they start everybody on if you don't have a clue what you're doing. I am making a smallish messenger bag with a satin inside and a divided pocket. I love love love the fabric, and it was in the free stash at the seminary! I'm trying to do small pictures because I have a lot of them I want to share, and they're from my phone so they're not the greatest quality, but you get the jist of it:

Pretty much all I've got left to do is iron that stiff stuff (can you tell I'm a beginner?) to the outside because I don't want it to be so floppy and then sew it together. Here is the beautiful wonderful strap I spent several hours on this morning:

Of course it only took so long because I made things a lot more complicated than they really had to be. It's not perfect, but I am very proud of it.

I'll stop for now because this is getting really long, but I'll be back soon to tell you about my first *completed* project, which I both started and finished in a couple of hours last night waiting for the Kentucky game to start, AND I'll show you my adorable new sewing kit. Here's a hint: it's in the background of that last picture. :)
